Embedded Systems (Minor)

Overview

The embedded systems minor integrates computer science and engineering, focusing on programming microprocessors and designing hardware systems. These skills are essential in robotics, where embedded systems control sensors, actuators, and decision-making algorithms. Students also explore applications in the Internet of Things (IoT), including smart devices, wearables, automotive systems, and medical technologies. With hands-on experience in circuit integration and low-level programming, the minor prepares students for careers in robotics, embedded AI, and advanced automation.

Data Analytics (BBA)

Overview

The data analytics program combines core business curriculum with courses in business intelligence, data analysis, and computer science, machine learning, and ethics. The program will help develop the next generation of ethically-centered and data-informed business leaders.

Policy
  • All students pursuing the BBA degree must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) in the major requirement courses, and students must receive a letter grade of C (2.0) or higher in each of these courses. If a grade of CD or below is earned in any of these courses, the course must be repeated until a grade of C or higher is achieved. Students pursuing the business education major must maintain a 2.75 grade point average in all business and education coursework.
  • All transfer students seeking an undergraduate degree offered by the Dahl School of Business must earn a minimum of 15 credits of business or computer science coursework at Viterbo University.
  • Students completing a bachelor completion degree may not concurrently double major or double degree in a major offered as a traditional student major.
Learning Outcomes
  • Apply principles of various business disciplines to solve complex issues using strategic and critical approaches to decision-making and problem solving.
  • Demonstrate sound ethical decision-making skills to machine learning, logistics, data visualization, strategy, project management, business forecasting and modeling.
  • Demonstrate capacity to clean, prepare, and utilize data in analytics tasks.
  • Communicate clearly and objectively and effectively convey business intelligence.

The Servant Leadership Embedded Certificate is embedded within the Business Core curriculum. The certificate outcomes include the following:

  • Practice ethical decision-making

Data Analytics (transfer agreements) Major (Bachelor of Business Administration)

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree must have been earned after May 2019 or earlier so long as the curriculum is similar enough to the 2023 AAS curriculum to meet ACBSP accreditation requirements as determined by a Viterbo transfer specialist. Students may not begin these specifically-articulated transfer programs or be considered a student in these programs until the AAS degree has been completed and documented on the technical college transcript. A student who did not complete the AAS degree could instead complete the requirements of the general major, and any completed courses of the AAS would count toward the major, but in order to come into this articulated transfer agreement program, the AAS must be completed prior to transfer to Viterbo. The student cannot be dually enrolled.

  • Core curriculum and mission seminars (32-52 credits) – see core curriculum section of catalog
  • Major requirements (28-48 credits) – see below
  • Final degree requirements – a minimum of 120 college level credits, minimum of 40 credits at the 300/400 level

Transfer courses and waivers and/or substitutions could modify the required credit total in the core curriculum and major.

Communication Disorders and Sciences (BS)

Overview

The Communication Disorders and Sciences program is 54 to 57 credits of core coursework that will build an understanding of the biological, physical, social, and linguistic aspects of communication. Through facility mentorship, coursework, and clinical observations students will develop an understanding of what happens when communication is impaired.

Policy

Students majoring in CDS must maintain a CDS grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 to continue in and graduate from this program. The CDS GPA is based on all grades earned in the required and elective courses taken in CDS and required support courses. Any student whose overall CDS GPA falls below 2.9 will be placed on probation for one semester and a remediation plan will be put into place. If the CDS GPA is not raised during that semester, the student may not enroll in further CDS courses. An earned letter grade of a D or lower in any CDS or CDS support course will not be credited toward the CDS major.

Pre-Anesthesiologist Assistant

Overview

Anesthesiologist assistants are highly educated allied health professionals who work under the direction of an anesthesiologist to help implement the anesthetic plan as prescribed by the anesthesiologist. Anesthesiologist assistants are trained through master’s degree professional programs in the delivery and maintenance of quality anesthesia care as well as advanced patient monitoring techniques. Anesthesiologist assistants can be thought of as similar to physician assistants, except that they work exclusively with anesthesiologists and practicing independently or in a primary care setting is NOT included in the Anesthesiologist assistants' scope of practice. Anesthesiologist assistants usually practice in a hospital setting that uses an Anesthesia Care Team approach and are always supervised by anesthesiologists. This track requires selection of a major.

Viterbo University offers pre-health advising programs with majors in biology, biochemistry, and neuroscience. These three majors have been determined to best satisfy the pre-health professional admission requirements of most professional schools in a four-year major curriculum. See the Pre-Professional Handbook for more specific information about each pre-professional program.

Pre-Genetic Counselor

Overview

Genetic counselors are professionals who have specialized education in genetics and counseling to provide personalized help patients may need as they make decisions about their genetic health and how genetic conditions may affect their families. Genetic counselors have advanced training in medical genetics and counseling to interpret genetic test results to guide and support patients. Genetic counselors typically receive a bachelor's degree in biology, social science or a related field, and then go on to receive specialized training via a Master's degree in genetic counseling. This track requires selection of a major.
