Pre-Audiologist

Overview

Audiologists examine individuals of all ages and identify those with the symptoms of hearing loss and other auditory, balance, and related sensory and neural disorders. They then assess the nature and extent of the dysfunction and assist patients in the treatment and management of their disorder. Audiologists earn the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree, as this is the entry level degree for clinical practice. This track requires selection of a major.

Viterbo University offers pre-health advising programs with majors in biology, biochemistry, and neuroscience. These three majors have been determined to best satisfy the pre-health professional admission requirements of most professional schools in a four-year major curriculum. Accelerated Coordinated Master's Dietetics (ACMD) Program

Overview

Viterbo’s ACMD Program is a pathway program to becoming a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) in just one year. Students will complete 1,200 supervised practice hours (clinicals) concurrently with online courses after completion of their undergraduate studies. Because the coursework is fully online, students can complete their clinicals anywhere in the country.

Policy

Grades
Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for all coursework, with no individual course grade lower than a C.

Transfer Credit
Individual consideration will be granted in the awarding of transfer credits. Up to six graduate level credits may be transferred into the Master of Science in Community-Medical Dietetics degree, if equivalent. Credits must have been earned from a regionally accredited program, taken within the last five years, have an earned grade of B or better, and be equivalent to the course it is replacing in the requirements at Viterbo. Coursework older than five years may be waived or given credit based on individual review. Students who wish to transfer credits need to contact the Office of Graduate Admissions for details on the process. Courses will be evaluated for equivalency and written notification of acceptance of transfer credit will be provided to the student by the director. Transfer credit is only eligible for coursework taken prior to enrollment and petitioned for prior to matriculation.

  • Apply leadership principles to practice positions in nutrition and dietetics.

  • Interpret results of a comprehensive nutrition-focused physical assessment relative to nutritional well-being using nutritional diagnostic reasoning and standardized language.

Computer Science (BS)

Overview

Viterbo’s computer science program is 41 credits (internship pathway) or 47 credits (co-op pathway) of core coursework, consisting of computer science, mathematics, information systems, and management courses. In combination with core curriculum, the complete credit load for this program is 98-108 credits. Students will choose a concentration track outside of computer science to apply skills within that area (business, creative design, data science, engineering or mathematics), take part in team-based, industry-related projects embedded into their coursework, and have an internship or co-op experience.

Learning Outcomes
  • Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
  • Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  • Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  • Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.

Associate of Science in Education (ASEd)

Overview

Associate of Science in Education is a credential awarded to a student in a Viterbo University education program who satisfies the requirements of the degree as outlined below. With this earned Associate of Science in Education degree, students are eligible to apply for a substitute teaching license in the state of Wisconsin.

A maximum of 45 credits may be transferred into the program.

  • Critical Thinking: Students comprehensively explore issues, ideas, artifacts, and events before accepting or formulating and opinion or conclusion.

  • Develop foundational professional knowledge of theory and pedagogy appropriate for PK-12 school settings.
  • Describe and apply child development principles in planning lessons for children from PK-12 school settings.
     

Art (Track)

Overview

Art is a timeless means of communicating human experiences. Artistic, creative abilities help move our civilization forward.

When you choose the art emphasis at Viterbo, you will learn what it means to recognize and create sound works of art and to understand the art forms of cultures throughout history.

You will be provided with meaningful study and practice in artistic methods, techniques, and media, embedded with intellectual inquiry and critical analysis. Explore questions such as:

  • How do I generate ideas and discern their strength?
  • How do I turn my ideas into strong, original art forms?
  • How do I craft them with my hands?
  • How might I use art and my creative abilities to serve my community?

The art emphasis consists of courses in studio art and art history. Studio courses are offered in:

  • Graphic design

Philosophy (Track)

Overview

Philosophy is being recognized more and more as one of the strongest and most versatile fields of study. In fact, we live in an age where employers want employees to be more than just knowledgeable in their chosen field; employers want critical thinkers, clear communicators, and ethical decision-makers. These skills are central to the study of philosophy. This emphasis is a great supplement for those going into the business world, law, or public policy.

History (Track)

Overview

Our history emphasis will prepare you with a wealth of knowledge—both past and present—and encourage curiosity and mindfulness of the events that have shaped civilization around the world. You will learn to connect ideas across cultures, which will serve you well in your education and career. Studying history grants you a unique opportunity to supplement your skills in written and oral communication, while also learning to be an informed citizen of the world.

Ethics, Culture, and Society (BS)

Overview

Viterbo’s interdisciplinary program combines courses from at least two academic disciplines, including history, philosophy, and art. Our program emphasizes collaborative problem-solving and community engagement.

Personal choice will drive your pathway, with interdisciplinary studies focused on perspectives and creativity applied to real-world issues in the La Crosse community and beyond. Course-embedded assignments are connected to the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership series of speakers and annual conference.

Policy

All majors are required to take a minimum of 12 credits in one discipline and nine credits in another, unrelated discipline. One of these disciplines must be in the Liberal Arts (art, history, literature, philosophy, mathematics, and social and natural sciences). All majors are encouraged to take more than the minimum requirements. For transfer students/students changing majors: No substitutions for ECAS-220/320 or ECAS-400. Credits for former major shift to a minor.

Addendum

Ethics, Culture, and Society (transfer agreement) Major (Bachelor of Science)

Students with an earned AAS degree in legal studies/paralegal from Western Technical College may earn a Bachelor of Science with a major in ethics, culture, and society. The degree must have been earned May 2016 or later.  Students may not begin this program or be considered a student in this program until the AAS degree has been completed and documented on a transcript. The student cannot be dually enrolled. The AAS degree must be completed prior to transfer to Viterbo. Students must fulfill all requirements for the Core Curriculum, mission seminars, major requirements, Bachelor of Science requirements and final degree requirements. Transfer courses and waivers and/or substitutions could modify the credit total in the core curriculum and major.
