Guatemala 2022
Study Abroad Guatemala

Why Guatemala? Guatemala has a high rate of poverty and discrimination. The disparity has not been relieved since its Civil War, which ended about 20 years ago. Providing basic health care and surgery in rural areas provides relief of suffering and improved health to those who otherwise would go unserved. You will make a difference.

Viterbo partners with Refuge International to realize this work. A local health board supports a compound that provides safe meals, dorms, and support for volunteers. Since 2008, Viterbo graduate faculty have taken students on this trip to San Raymundo every February to provide surgical, clinic, pharmacy, vision, women's health, and dental services. The 2020 trip also includes a day of sightseeing and rest in the colonial city of Antigua.
