Social Justice and Equity

In keeping with its Catholic tradition and Franciscan values, Viterbo University has centered social justice and equity in its values, mission, and practice.  We believe that for a university community to thrive, it must be welcoming to all its students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Grounded in the Franciscan value of hospitality, all are welcomed at Viterbo.

It is important for us to define what social justice and equity mean to us:

Social Justice: Providing equitable systems and structures to support employees and students while centering human rights and recognizing the dignity of every human being.

Equity: Implementing systems and structures that provide access, opportunity, and advancement in a manner that is just and equitable for all Viterbo employees and students. Equity acknowledges the differences between identities and experiences and works to eliminate barriers to meet the diverse needs of all.

Viterbo University is committed to building a campus climate where all are welcomed. Each person at Viterbo deserves to be recognized, understood, and respected. We live our values when we embrace all cultures, identities, experiences, and perspectives. We encourage you to explore how we are putting these words into action.
