Program Information

The Doctor of Nursing curriculum has been planned with working professionals and commuter students in mind, with classes held in a blended online/on-campus delivery method. The curriculum is based on the expressed needs for all nursing professionals in advanced roles to have increased knowledge of informatics and health care technologies, quality improvement and safety, organizational and systems leadership, inter-professional collaboration for improving patient/population outcomes, and advocacy, as well as an advanced scientific and humanities-based background for practice (AACN, The Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice, 2006).

Nurse Practitioner Clinical Education Collaboration
Viterbo University and a small number of select regional nurse practitioner academic programs have collaborated with Mayo Clinic to increase the capacity of nurse practitioner students and develop common clinical education curriculum and timelines. Students selected to participate in this prestigious program will be guaranteed placement for all required clinical rotations at Mayo Midwest sites.

The dedicated faculty are well prepared in both their respective nursing roles and teaching. They also are very approachable and student-centered. The nursing building brings with it friendly, learner-centered spaces.

Doctor of Nursing Practice

MBA/DNP Dual Degree

Registered nurses with a BSN or MSN degree can prepare for leadership roles, educate future nurses, and influence systems of care with Viterbo University's MBA/DNP program. This integrated dual degree program provides registered nurses a direct path to their career goals with critical business and management skills needed by successful health care leaders. Students save time and money by completing this integrated program.

Adult-Gero Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Post-graduate Certificate

The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Post-graduate certificate program is ideal for graduates of master’s or DNP accredited primary care nurse practitioner programs in family or adult-gerontology population focus.  Certificate graduates are eligible to apply for either of the national certification exams for this role.

The eight-course (21 credit hour - five semesters) program includes two semesters of didactic coursework and three semesters (540 hours) clinical experiences.   Clinical opportunities may be available in your region. The program is financial aid (student loan) eligible, with competitive scholarships available for continuing post-graduate certificate students.
