Get Ready for Fall Orientation! 

Fall Orientation is a multi-day kick-off filled with engaging activities, informative sessions, and exciting opportunities to dive deeper into campus life. From academic preparation workshops to social events and campus traditions, you will get a firsthand look at what it means to be a V-Hawk. It is also a great chance to explore La Crosse, discover student resources, and start forming friendships that will last throughout your time at Viterbo. Orientation begins on Thursday, August 27 and classes start on Monday, August 31. 

Before you come to campus, please make sure to select your preferred placement for Orientation Day of Service on August 29 and have your Vector trainings done. Details on the trainings were sent to your Viterbo e-mail. 

 

First-Year Student Orientation Schedule

Below is our tentative schedule and is subject to change. Please check back by August 1 for the finalized schedule.

Thursday, August 27

8 - 11 a.m.

  • Move-In: New on-campus residents will be greeted as they arrive on campus. The Res Life team will assign room keys, and then the fun begins. Moving in! More information about New Student Move-In can be found here
  • Student ID: For anyone who did not have their Student ID photo taken during STAR, you must do so by 1:30 p.m. (Physical Plant, located at 727 Winnebago Street).

11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

  • Food Trucks & Resource Fair: Kick-off Orientation by swinging over to Assisi Courtyard to purchase lunch from some of our favorite local food trucks, and learn about how you can get involved around campus.

12 p.m.

  • Get to Know Your Campus: If you interested in learning more where things are on campus, please join one of our tours. Tours leave at 12 & 12:30 p.m. Meet at the Rinehart Center Lobby. 

12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

  • Mary of the Angels Chapel Tours: If you are interested in touring the Chapel, we have tours departing at 12:30 p.m. & 1 p.m. Meet at the Student Union Bookstore.

1 - 2 p.m. 

  • Off-Campus First-Year Student Check-In: New first-year students that are not living on campus should check in for Orientation in the Nursing Center First Floor Lobby.

1:30 - 2 p.m.

  • Let’s Talk Nutrition: Our dining services team will answer questions about meal plans, dietary needs, and employment. Stop in if interested. (Nursing Center Room 195).

2 - 2:55 p.m.

  • THRIVE @ VU - Session 1: Get to know your Orientation Leader and your VUSM-100 classmates, who will also be the group of students that you'll be with throughout Orientation (see name tag for location).

3:15 - 4:15 p.m.

  • Welcome & Blessing Ceremony: A Viterbo tradition for a meaningful transition! This event is for students, parents, and families (Fine Arts Center Main Theatre).

4:30 - 4:45 p.m.

  • New Student Photo: Following the Welcome & Blessing Ceremony, we will head to the Varsity Athletic Center (VAC) for a class photo! Parents and families, please head to the Assisi Courtyard - we'll join you there shortly for our New Beginnings Dinner.

4:45- 6:15 p.m.

  • Break and New Beginnings Dinner: Families are invited to stay for dinner in Assisi Courtyard before departing. Use this time to say your goodbyes, and start meeting new people!

6:15 - 6:55 p.m.

  • THRIVE @ VU - Session 2: The Circle

It is time to meet back up with your Orientation Leader for another session to help set the stage for the rest of the weekend (see name tag for location).

7- 8 p.m.

  • Community @ VU: You will have a floor program hosted by your RAs to get to know your new neighbors and learn the essentials before staying overnight for the first time.
  • Inside Scoop: Students living off-campus will meet in the Hawk’s Nest in the first floor of Marian Hall for an ice cream social.

8- 11 p.m.

  • S’more Fun: Join us in Marian Courtyard for s’mores, glow-in-the-dark volleyball, music, and yard games. A great way to meet new people and make lasting connections!
Friday, August 28

7 - 8:15 a.m.

  • Breakfast in the Caf. Student ID needed.

8:15- 9 a.m.

  • Professors Perspective: Meet with your VUSM-100 instructor (see name tag for location).

9:10- 9:50 a.m.

  • First Lecture @ VU: Join us for a presentation on the book: What the Eyes Don't See by Mona Hanna-Attisha (Fine Arts Center Main Theatre).

9:50- 10:10 a.m.

  • Safety @ VU (Fine Arts Center Main Theatre) 

10:10 - 10:40 a.m.

  • Inclusion @ VU: Learn about how we create a culture together where every person can be seen and celebrated! (Fine Arts Center Main Theatre).

10:50 - 11:20 a.m.

  • Academics @ VU: Head to your assigned classrooms to meet faculty from your major (see name tag for location).

11:20 a.m.- noon 

  • Finding Your Way @ VU: Your Orientation Leader will provide a behind-the-scenes tour through academic buildings and highlight key campus resources.

Noon-1:30 p.m.

  • Lunch: Critters and Contemplation (Caf and Marian Courtyard). 

1:30 - 2:30 p.m.

  • THRIVE @ VU - Session 3: Technology and Support at VU. Learn about support services available to you as a student (see name tag for location).

2:30 - 3:45 p.m.

  • Brave Spaces: Let’s create a brave space to talk about healthy relationships, consent, and bystander intervention (see your Orientation Leader for location).

3:45- 5:30 p.m.

  • Socialize and Settle-In: This is your time to socialize, explore, and unpack.

5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

  • Dinner in the Caf. Student ID needed.

7:30- 8:30 p.m.

  • Mission IMPROVable: High-energy comedy at its fastest and funniest, with lots of audience interaction (Fine Arts Center Recital Hall).

8:30 - 10:30 p.m.

  • Night @ the Rec: Join CREW for a night of fun—trivia, volleyball, basketball, pickleball & more! Sign up for intramurals and group fitness, and get your facility questions answered. (Mathy Center).
Saturday, August 29

7 - 9 a.m.

  • Breakfast in the Caf. Student ID needed.

8:45 - 9:15 a.m. (Check-in)

  • Orientation Service Saturday: A highlight of orientation, Service Saturday provides a great opportunity to serve and connect with your community. (Mathy Center).

12:45 - 1:30 p.m.

  • Break: Use this time to relax after all your hard work.

1:30- 3:30 p.m. (two options)

  • Bus System 101: Guided by the Orientation Leaders, catch a ride to Walmart, stock up on last-minute supplies, and learn about the La Crosse MTU System. Meet at the Student Union. Student ID needed.
  • Explore La Crosse: Guided by the Orientation Leaders, this is your chance to explore downtown La Crosse! Various groups leave from the Clocktower at 1:30 p.m. sharp!

3:45 - 6 p.m.

  • Visit the Outdoor Athletics Complex: Join us for a V-Hawk Women's Soccer Game. Meet at the Clock Tower, buses leave at 3:30 p.m. sharp!

6 - 10:30 p.m.

  • V-Hawk Cookout, Yard Games & Silent Dance Party. Returning students join the party for a night of food and fun in Assisi Courtyard! 

Sunday, August 30

You deserve a day of rest! Relax and recharge before the start of your academic journey. 

  • Optional activities include: 
    • Morning coffee crawl: Meet at the Clocktower at 9 a.m.
    • 11 a.m. Mass in San Damiano Chapel 
    • 2 p.m. Men's Soccer game. Meet at the Clocktower. 
    • 2 p.m. Viterbo Choir Placements. Meet in Fine Arts Center 435. 
    • 6 p.m. Mass in San Damiano Chapel

8- 9 p.m.

  • Mandatory Resident Hall Meeting: Required for all students living on campus. Talk to your RA for details.

Orientation Group Information

All new students are paired with an Orientation Leader who is an experienced V-Hawk that is here to support and guide your transition to Viterbo.

Watch your Viterbo email this summer to find out who your Orientation Leader is and which Orientation Group you are placed in. Each group has its own schedule of meeting times and locations. 

Your Orientation Group (also your VUSM-100 classmates) will help you build the skills and connections to start strong. You will explore campus, discover resources, and learn what it means to be a V-Hawk.

Transfer Student Orientation Schedule

Thursday, August 27

All on-campus transfer students are encouraged to attend the full-day orientation on Thursday. However, early move in must be approved by Residence Life beforehand. More information can be found on the Residence Life website.  

8- 11 a.m.
