STAR Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Student Transition And Registration (STAR) event cost anything?
No, there is no cost to you or your parents/guardians or guests to attend STAR.  We even include a free lunch!

Can I change my STAR session date once I receive confirmation?
Space is limited to a set number of students per date, and our schedule is based on this number. In order to give the best experiences to all in attendance, we ask that you do not change your STAR date after you sign up. If you do need to change your date for reasons beyond your control, please contact Admissions by calling 608-796-3010 or emailing
admission@viterbo.edu for accommodations.

What will parents, supporters, or guests do at STAR?
Guests are encouraged to attend to learn about how to best support students during their important first year of transition at Viterbo University. We have sessions scheduled for guests, as well as combined sessions that provide information on academic and social support services.

What information should I bring?
Mandatory forms
should be completed prior to STAR. To aid with your registration appointment, students are strongly encouraged to bring any documentation about previously earned college credits. You should also have your student information handy (student ID number, username, password, etc.).

Do I need to wear a mask or be vaccinated to attend STAR?
Masks are welcome but not required on campus. COVID-19 vaccinations are also recommended but not required for participation on campus at STAR or for the fall semester.

Will I have a student photo identification picture taken at STAR?
Yes, there will be an opportunity right away in the morning for you to have your student identification photo taken.

Will there be Placement Testing at STAR?
Placement Testing should be completed online prior to attending STAR and will not be available in-person during the event. After signing up for STAR, you will be emailed a username and password from Admissions to complete any necessary placement exams in Moodle online. Official ACT/SAT scores or even screenshots of those exams that include the student's name, date of exam, and English and Math subscores may be used instead of taking a placement exam. Previous college coursework may also substitute for a placement exam in these areas as well as with Spanish.

Where do I park and where do I go when I first arrive?
Parking is available in lot A, I, J, or M and no parking permit is necessary. Check-in will be located in the Fine Arts Center. See our campus map.

My family must drive a long distance to Viterbo. Is lodging available?
On-campus lodging is not provided through the STAR event; however, we are happy to recommend a number of local lodging options that can accommodate your group.

What if I cannot attend STAR?
Although we encourage you to make arrangements so you are able to attend, we understand there may be unavoidable scheduling conflicts. We ask that you sign up for STAR in a
bsentia. An academic advisor will work with you remotely to register you for your classes and share pertinent STAR information. You will not be required to visit campus prior to your move-in date (unless you would like to arrange an individual campus visit). All information given to students during STAR will be sent to you after the last STAR event date has passed.

Who do I contact with additional questions?
