About
Dr. Michael Sauer serves as the Director of Choirs at Viterbo University, where he conducts the Concert Choir, 9th Street Singers, and Viterbo Choral Arts Ensemble, and teaches courses in music education. Dr. Sauer comes to Viterbo University from his home state of Iowa, where he spent the last ten years teaching and conducting choirs in secondary, college, church, and community choir settings.
He worked most recently as the Director of the Sanctuary Choir and Handbell Ministries at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and as the Sabbatical Replacement Director of Choirs at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA.
Sauer earned his DMA from the University of Iowa, MM from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and BME in Vocal Music Education from Wartburg College. He is passionate about working with pre-service teachers, and providing meaningful musical experiences for choirs and audiences.
