The Library is now hiring for Work Study positions at the Main Desk and in Archives/Serials. Apply online on the "About the Library" page Student Employment Application link, or on Handshake.


Circulation Assistants

Opening, afternoon, and evening shifts are available at the Library's Main Desk. Circulation Assistants are responsible for providing excellent customer service at the Main Desk in person and via e-mail and phone.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Checking library materials in and out
  • Processing interlibrary loan requests
  • Shelving
  • Organizing
  • Cleaning
  • Data entry
  • Occasional cataloging processing assistance
  • Other clerical duties as assigned

Students will gain insider knowledge regarding research strategy, study room sign up, and interlibrary loan. You will also learn time management and responsibility, critical thinking/problem solving skills, balancing priorities, interpersonal communication, customer service, working with people from diverse backgrounds, working as part of a team, and developing professional relationships.

Applicants should have good communication skills (written and verbal), be positive and respectful in working with diverse populations, an understanding of Microsoft Office, commitment to customer service, and the ability to handle multiple assignments.

Shifts: Scheduled between 8:00 am-10:00 pm Monday-Thursday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm Friday, and 2:00 pm-10:00 pm Sunday.

Archives/Serials Student Assistant

Learn about Viterbo University's history through materials like photographs, videos, yearbooks, and the student newspaper.

About the Archives: The archives preserves University materials of permanent historical value and serves as an educational resource for administrative and scholarly research. Materials housed in the archives include photographs, videos, campus publications such as the student newspaper and yearbooks, student research projects, fine arts recordings, and more.

Archives Job Responsibilities: 

  • Preparing, organizing and writing metadata for digital files that will appear in the online collection.
  • Assisting patrons with research using the online and physical collections.
  • Scanning physical items.
  • Cataloging and housing physical items.

About Serials: Serials include academic journals, popular magazines, and newspapers.

Serials Job Responsibilities:

  • Processing incoming serials
  • Shelving serials in the Library for patron use
  • Inventorying serials

Students will learn time management and responsibility, critical thinking/problem solving skills, balancing priorities, interpersonal communication, customer service, Excel, scanning, PhotoShop, and WMS (WorldShare Management System). Applicants should have good attention to detail.

Shifts: Scheduled between 8:00 am-5:00 pm Monday-Friday, with possible evening shifts on Thursday
