VITERBO UNIVERSITY NURSING GRADUATES ACHIEVE OUTSTANDING NCLEX PASS RATE IN 2023

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University nursing graduates achieved an outstanding pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) in 2023. All aspiring registered nurses must pass the test to earn licensure and legally practice their profession in the U.S.

According to statistics just released by the State of Wisconsin Board of Nursing, 99.3% (142 of 143) of Viterbo University Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree graduates and 100% (13 of 13) of Master of Science in Nursing graduates who took the exam passed it and became licensed in 2023.

“I am tremendously proud of our Viterbo nursing graduates and their academic excellence showcased with stellar all-time NCLEX pass rates,” said Megan Smith, PhD, dean of the College of Nursing and Health at Viterbo University. “These impressive individuals have applied the principles and practices learned during their nursing education as they demonstrate the values of care, wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to faithful service. Viterbo is graduating nurses who are passing their state boards—what we are doing is working.”

To help alleviate the nursing shortage, the Wisconsin Department of Health and Human Services announced a change that will allow aspiring nurses to take the NCLEX prior to graduation. This will mean many nursing students will be licensed and ready to practice as soon as they graduate.

“As we at Viterbo University advocate for a strong nursing workforce, we are pleased to see this success for our students, faculty, and the many patients they will serve throughout their careers,” Smith said.
