Gabi Gomez found a home away from home at Viterbo, and as a Voyager campus tour guide, she enthusiastically shares her knowledge, experiences, and love for the university with many prospective students and their families.

Although graduation is still several weeks away, senior biology major with a business administration minor, Gomez has already secured a great job in the health care insurance industry near her hometown of St. Paul. Gomez also minored in business during her Viterbo career.

Gomez recalls the first time she heard of Viterbo University. She said, “I was at a volleyball combine when the Viterbo volleyball coach noticed me and convinced me to come to La Crosse for a tour of the Viterbo campus.”

“It was meant to be,” said Gomez. “Viterbo and La Crosse are a very welcoming community. Viterbo has been like a home away from home for me.”

She emphasizes Viterbo’s top tier academics. “The small class sizes are an advantage. And the professors and faculty truly care and work hard to get their students to the next level. You’re not just another student or a number at Viterbo.”

Gomez has also enjoyed her Viterbo athletic career on the varsity volleyball team. The V-Hawk volleyball team earned conference championships and advanced to the national championships with Gomez on the team. “It has been a great experience, she said. “We not only toured the U.S., but also Europe.”

“For those who say there isn’t much to do in La Crosse—they’re so wrong!” she said. “There is always something to do on campus and in the city.” Gomez enjoys rollerblading at Riverside Park, painting, drawing, music, going to The Pearl for ice cream, and hiking in the surrounding bluffs.

Not surprisingly, Gomez’ favorite place on campus is the sand volleyball court and outdoor patio.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have served as a Viterbo Voyager and liaison between the Viterbo admissions and athletics departments,” she said. “I think we’ve brought many great students and athletes to Viterbo.”
