Poet, novelist, and essayist Julia Alvarez was born in New York City, but spent much of her childhood in the Dominican Republic. Many of Alvarez's works are influenced by her experiences as a Dominican-American, and focus heavily on issues of immigration, assimilation, and identity. The library holds several books by this author.
