It’s been a highly educational and career prospects-enhancing summer for Viterbo student Nathan Arias, thanks to an internship with Multistack, LLC. The opportunity was the perfect fit for Arias, a computer science major with a lifelong interest in technology.

“I have learned a ton about the HVAC industry through the internship,” said Arias, a senior from Lombard, Illinois. “This will definitely help me in the future as it gave me some experience in the real world that can help guide me into whatever field or career path I plan to pursue after college.”

Located in Sparta, Multistack is a growing company that “offers scalable, affordable, and low-maintenance modular chillers for air-cooled, water-cooled, packaged, and heating solutions.” A company official had contacted Viterbo computer science faculty member Eric Weinberg, encouraging students to apply. Multistack has hosted six interns from Viterbo University counting Arias and will welcome a seventh this fall.

Specifically, Arias has learned about the company Multistack uses for the controllers, how to program them, and how to convert software from older controllers to the newer top of the line models in production, he explained.

“It has been an amazing experience at Multistack as my co-workers are all great and invested in my learning,” Arias said. “They have created an environment in which I can ask them anything technical, and I have developed personal relationships as well.”

Arias is very happy with the education he is receiving at Viterbo and felt well-prepared for his summer internship.

“I love the small class sizes at Viterbo that allow professors to know students by name and help give us the hands-on experience needed in our field,” said Arias, who is also a member of the Viterbo men’s bowling team and works as an operations manager at the Amie L. Mathy Center for Recreation and Education on campus. He will graduate from Viterbo in May 2027.

“My ideal career path would be to get a programming job within the HVAC industry, but I am open to all tech jobs,” Arias said.
