"I began at Viterbo in nursing, but after discovering a love for science in anatomy and physiology, I switched to biochemistry with the support of my professors. At first, I planned to become a physician assistant, but shadowing providers and talking with mentors showed me that my heart was set on becoming a doctor. With encouragement from faculty, friends, and family, I committed to pursuing an MD.
At Viterbo I have found countless ways to learn and lead. I serve as President of TriBeta, am active in STEM Club and the Honors Program, and have helped start up the Servant Leadership Club with Barb Grob! I’ve studied abroad in Spain and Costa Rica, gone on mission trips to Casa Hogar in Perú, and volunteered through Campus Ministry at various events. These experiences have deepened my love for service and community while growing my absolute adoration for Viterbo University. One of my most meaningful relationships has been with Dr. Scott Gabriel, who guided me through self-doubt and reminded me that I belonged in science. All professors and faculty members here have a special place in my heart for the support and kindness they have offered me since day one.
Looking ahead, I plan to take a gap year to gain clinical experience and continue volunteering before applying to medical school. I hope to serve rural communities in emergency medicine, while also bringing together science, service, and faith in underserved communities. My favorite tradition is the Blessing of the Pets during St. Francis Week. Finally, my advice for future students is to take advantage of every opportunity Viterbo offers. This community will meet you where you are and help you grow into the person you are meant to be.”
