LA CROSSE, Wis. – Four-time Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter Lyle Lovett and his Small Large Band and special guest Hayes Carll will open the Viterbo University Bright Star Summer Season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11 in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.

Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents, but also the diversity of his influences, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music.

Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lyle Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. In addition to his four Grammy Awards, he received the Americana Music Association's inaugural Trailblazer Award and was named Texas State Musician.

Hayes Carll has spent over two decades building a reputation as one of Americana’s most beloved and consistent voices—not by chasing trends, but by being unflinchingly himself. With a knack for cutting through noise and naming the hard truths with humor, humility, and heart, Carll’s songs feel both deeply personal and universally understood. Carll’s voice—both literal and lyrical—is warm, weathered, and unmistakably his.
