Graduate Speech-Language Pathology Admission Requirements

Accepting applications via CSDCAS in August 2023

Fall 2024 Cohort

The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program will require all candidates to apply through the formal CSDCAS application system for Communication Disorders programs.  The application will open annually each August.  Candidates for this program will first be reviewed for admissions via CSDCAS, selected candidates will then be invited to complete the final Viterbo University Application for formal admission to the program. 

Admission to the program is selective.  The program offers one start annually each fall.  Candidates will be considered for admissions beginning in early fall until the application deadline.  If space is available after the national decision date of April 15, the program may continue to review candidates on a space-available basis. 

Candidates for this program must have completed the required pre-enrollment courses via an undergraduate major or minor in Communication Sciences or Communication Disorders.  Or, via a post-baccalaureate certificate program preparing one for entry to a Speech-Language Pathology program.   The minimum cumulative and major/post-baccalaureate GPA is 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Essay
  • Three letters of Recommendation
  • Official transcripts from all degree-granting and institutions where pre-enrollment courses were complete. 
  • Required General Foundational courses (must have a minimum grade of 'C' or better)
    • American Sign Language 1
    • Statistics
    • Biology
    • Physics or Chemistry
    • Psychology or Sociology
  • Required Communication Disorders Foundational courses (must have a minimum grade of 'B' or better)
    • Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing Mechanisms
    • Introduction to Phonetics
    • Introduction to Speech and Hearing Science 
    • Normal Speech and Language Development
    • Introduction to Speech Sound Disorders
    • Introduction to Language Disorders
    • Introduction to Hearing Disorders and Aural Rehabilitation 

All materials required to support the student application process for the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology degree program should be uploaded to the application portal or sent directly to CSDCAS.  Additional guidance will be found in CSDCAS.

Additional Items Required to complete application process post-acceptance: 

  • Complete the program’s background check process. While the findings from this background check may not preclude program enrollment, problematic findings are likely to restrict practicum and internship placements and complicate the successful completion of the program. In addition, such issues may preclude state licensure.
  • Read and sign the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement providing you with Viterbo Univerity's institutional Business Office Federal Disclosure  Information and Policy Statement which includes information regarding fees, interest rates, enrollment deposits, and refund schedule information, as well as an electronic form and signature release. The link to complete the online form will be available on your supplemental items list inside your application portal after the application is submitted.
  • Submit your immunization records., ensuring all required immunizations including COVID are up to date.  Not required until enrolled in the program.

 

International Applicants

In addition to meeting all of the program-specific admission requirements for the counselor education and supervision program, all international students must submit additional documentation to be considered for admission.
