9/11 Remembrance Service

The Viterbo community is invited to gather at San Damiano Chapel at 9 a.m. on Sept. 11 for a brief service of remembrance and reflection marking the 25th anniversary of the events of Sept. 11, 2001. U.S. Army Lt. Col. Erik Archer will provide the reflection. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.

Erik Archer Bio:

Erik Archer is the son of Scott and Ann, brother of Emily and Adam, husband of Beth, and father of Luke, Ellie and Finley. He served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, leading and serving alongside teams in assignments across the United States and Germany, as well as during two deployments to Iraq and two to Afghanistan.

His assignments ranged from leading soldiers at the tactical level to serving on the Joint Staff J35 in the Pentagon's National Military Command Center. His military decorations include two Bronze Star Medals and the Combat Action Badge.

In his final Army assignment, Erik served as professor of military science at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, leading the ROTC program serving students from UW-La Crosse, Viterbo University and Winona State University. During his tenure, his team earned the General Douglas MacArthur Award, recognizing the best ROTC program in the Midwest.

Most importantly, many of the cadets Erik had the privilege to teach and lead, including cadets from Viterbo University, now serve around the world as Army officers. As nurses, pilots, military police officers, cyber officers and in many other roles, they lead and serve Soldiers, carrying forward a tradition of leadership and service with professionalism, love, and audacity.
