Guatemala Clinical Immersion: Global Health in Antigua

Program Overview

Guatemala Clinical Immersion

Deepen your clinical skills and practice ethical leadership while serving Indigenous Mayan communities in rural Guatemala. Working alongside Onda Health mission partners, you will engage in direct patient care, community health education, and interprofessional teamwork—all while advancing cultural humility in resource-limited settings.

As a nursing student you will do the following:

  • Provide care to Indigenous Mayan populations in rural Perhula
  • Deliver primary care services (assessment, diagnosis, treatment, health education) under supervision
  • Assist with surgical care (pre-op prep, OR support, post-op recovery) under supervision
  • Rotate through pharmacy, lab, and intake for hands-on experience with medications, diagnostics, and triage
  • Conduct well-child exams and deliver health education in local schools
  • Conclude with a weekend in Antigua exploring Guatemalan history and culture
