Ashley Barnes, MS

Over the past decade, Ashley has been connected to Viterbo University in different ways, completing both her undergraduate and graduate studies at Viterbo before going on to join the Counseling Services team in 2022. Ashley believes in the power of the therapeutic alliance, as this relationship serves as the foundation for creating real and lasting change in people’s lives. Walking alongside individuals while they navigate life’s hardships, find meaning, and explore what it means to be human is a privilege she does not take for granted. Ashley has received additional training in evidence-based practices, including Internal Family Systems Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and more. Ashley’s professional interests include parts work, navigating challenging relationships, and the intersection of her first two loves—psychology and philosophy.

When Ashley is not in the office, she can usually be found walking around Winona, MN, where she currently resides. Her house is one filled with love (and fur) with her husband (Paul), son (Brennen), two cats (Nox & Adeline), and two dogs (Alex & Athena). She enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially if there are snacks involved.
