LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Board of Trustees announced today it has unanimously approved a two-year contract extension for Viterbo President Rick Trietley, continuing his leadership of the university through June 30, 2029.
“The Board’s decision reflects our strong confidence in President Trietley and the leadership he has provided to Viterbo,” said Board Chair John McHugh. “During a period of significant change and challenge across higher education, he has remained steadfast in his commitment to our Catholic Franciscan mission, our students, and our future. We look forward to continuing our work together as we build on the university’s momentum and pursue new opportunities in the years ahead.”
Trietley was named the 10th president of Viterbo University in 2022. He had previously served as the interim president, interim provost and executive vice president for student success, and the vice president for student affairs since beginning at Viterbo in 2017. Prior to his career in higher education, Trietley served 22 years in the U.S. Army, including a combat deployment to Afghanistan. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service and other commendations. He retired from military service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
“My wife Michele and I are honored by the Board’s confidence and deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue serving Viterbo University,” said President Trietley. “The accomplishments of recent years have been possible because of the extraordinary commitment of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, trustees, and friends. We have many challenges ahead, but together we will continue to strengthen Viterbo, expand opportunities for our students, and advance the mission that has guided this university for generations.”
