A deepening Catholic faith helped Grace Zinda realize she wanted to attend a college that resonated with her values. That, combined with a suggestion from her alumna mother Linda, led her to tour Viterbo University.
“When I walked into San Damiano Chapel, I said, ‘this is it,’” Zinda said. “Viterbo felt like home. The people all said ‘hi,’ and my family and friends who attended the university highly recommended it. Three and half years later, I wouldn’t change anything. Viterbo has been a huge family.”
Zinda will graduate in this month with a degree in marketing. During her time as a student, Zinda has served as the president and co-president of Residence Hall Council, a campus tour guide, and a member of the St. Francis Choir at the chapel. She has also been very involved in Campus Ministry and participated in two service trips to Casa Hogar, a home for youth sponsored by the Diocese of La Crosse, located in Peru.
“I’ve really grown as a person,” said Zinda about her college experience. “I stepped out of my comfort zone, deepened my faith, and have a more true sense of self. Viterbo allowed me to meet my close friends, and we’re there for each other throughout the ups and downs. Everyone at Viterbo has always been willing to help me with anything. That community will always be there.”
After graduation, Zinda will return to Casa Hogar for three months as a volunteer, an immersive experience that will have the added benefit of sharpening her Spanish language skills. She will also pursue a graduate degree through the university’s 4+1 MBA program.
“I like the creative aspect of marketing,” she said of her chosen career field. “Earning a graduate degree will open up more opportunities. I’d like to work for a nonprofit. The strong community, family atmosphere, and living out my personal values more would be a great fit. A Catholic organization would be perfect, but not a requirement.”
