Hometown: Dodge Center, Minnesota
Major: Nursing
Year: Junior
Being a CNA has shaped me more than any other experience I’ve had. It taught me what kind of nurse I want to be, strengthened my passion for health care, and confirmed that I chose the right career path. I’ve learned more from that job than I ever expected, and it motivates me every day to keep working hard in my nursing program.
I originally thought about becoming an anesthesiologist — years and years of schooling didn’t scare me. But then I discovered the role of a nurse anesthetist, which requires half the schooling and still allows me to live out my dream. Nursing has always felt like a calling, and the combination of my CNA experience and my education at Viterbo keeps pushing me toward my goals.
On campus, I stay busy as a member of the track and field team, serving as the public relations officer for VSNA, working as an Orientation Leader, and supervising at the Mathy Center. I chose Viterbo because everything just aligned — the welcoming community, the strong nursing program, and the chance to continue competing in track. It felt right from the start, and it still does.
What makes Viterbo feel like home is the people. Everyone is so kind and welcoming, from professors who take time to know you personally to friends who feel like family. Those relationships have made my experience unforgettable.
Looking ahead, I hope to work in the ICU or ER after graduation, and maybe even take on a traveling nurse position before returning to school to become a nurse anesthetist.
