LA CROSSE, Wis. – Evergreen, an exhibit of paintings and drawings by art education major Camille Olson, will open with a reception from 4–6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 in the Viterbo University Gallery.
“Painting is my way of expressing who I am and what I love,” Olson said. “My work is inspired by the Midwest, the quiet beauty of the driftless area that we so often take for granted. Growing up in rural Wisconsin on an old dairy farm, surrounded by corn and bean fields, winding roads, and many animals, I have found a deep sense of belonging and comfort within these familiar scenes, and they continue to inspire my work and passion. Through color and texture, I attempt to translate these images into a personal expression of what is important and meaningful to me. My desire is to honor the place I call home and bring attention to often overlooked places.”
Olson works primarily in acrylics. She hopes to share her passion for creativity with her future students.
Evergreen will be on display until Wednesday, Dec. 3.
There is no admission fee to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Viterbo Fine Arts Center. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. when school is in session. For the full schedule of Viterbo University gallery exhibits, visit www.viterbo.edu/gallery.
