LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Civics and Cinema program will continue with The Devil and Daniel Webster at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 at the Rivoli Theatre and Pizzeria in La Crosse.
Released in 1941, The Devil and Daniel Webster is a Faustian bargain tale of a down on his luck farmer who sells his soul for prosperity but later becomes desperate when the time of his deal is about to end. He asks lawyer Daniel Webster to help him find a way to break the pact. The film deals with themes such as evil, patriotism, loyalty, and justice.
The Civics and Cinema program is devoted to sharing classic movies, bringing the community together, and fostering civic conversations. Sam Scinta of Rebuilding American Civics and Rick Kyte of the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership at Viterbo University will give a brief introduction to the film and will lead a conversation following the screening.
Civics and Cinema is sponsored by the Rivoli Theater and Pizzeria, Rebuilding American Civics, and the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership at Viterbo University.
Advance tickets are required and can be purchased at https://www.rivoli.net. The cost is $5, with all proceeds donated to the La Crosse Community Foundation.
