LA CROSSE, Wis. – Solace, an exhibit of colored drawings by artist Joyce Koskenmaki, will be on display in the Viterbo University Gallery from Wednesday, Jan. 21–Wednesday, April 1.

A reception with Koskenmaki will be held in the gallery from 4–5 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 followed by an artist talk from 5–6 p.m. in Fine Arts Center 219.

“Making art gives me comfort and peace,” Koskenmaki wrote in an artist statement. “When the relationship of shapes and colors creates the right harmony, it leads me to the deeper reality that holds us all together. My hope is that this sense of peace will communicate itself to viewers in this difficult time when peace is needed.”

The art featured in the exhibit stems from paintings started during three months spent in La Crosse last winter. Koskenmaki is dedicating this work to her late friend John Meyer, “whose love and obsession with art-making in the driftless area and coulees always did honor to the landscape.”

There is no admission fee to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Viterbo Fine Arts Center. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. when school is in session. For the full schedule of Viterbo University gallery exhibits, visit www.viterbo.edu/gallery.
