Breakout Session Information:

Thank you for agreeing to present during a breakout session.  Here is some information regarding what to expect.

The symposium aims to engage students and the community with experts and influencers on transformative science issues within our broader society.

Layout of the breakout session:  55 minutes total

Introduction by Viterbo staff or student. (3 minutes)

  • There will be a Viterbo student or staff who will welcome the participants and read the blurb of each of the presenters that was handed in through the survey link.

Your Presentation (40 minutes):

During this, please cover as applicable:

  • What is your story of how you became interested in this area of study or the interest you’ll be talking on?
  • Are there any interesting parts of history that we should know about that relate to your topic?
  • How do concussions affect the brain? Challenges and opportunities with traumatic brain injuries.  (Focus on the group that your title suggests)
  • What does your research or practice tell you about this? Describe any science, research or data that you’ve done that supports your case.
  • What is one change or suggestion for athletes, veterans, or the research going forward?

Question and Answer. (10 minutes)

Closing. (2 minutes)

  • At the end of the session, the Viterbo student or staff moderator will thank the participants and explain next steps.
Audience

The audience to expect: Please aim your content towards a college student level. There will be college students, community members and potentially high school students in the audience.

For our last symposium in March, 65% of participants were in person and 35% were online.

Space and Equipment

Space to expect: If you are presenting indoors, there will be a room with a podium near the front that you can use. We have projectors at the front of each room. If you will be using a PowerPoint (or similar platform), we will ask for your presentation one week prior to the symposium and we will have it ready for you. We also will have someone working the virtual option in the front of the room to stream the presentation.

We are hoping to have outdoor spaces for breakout sessions for those that prefer to be outdoors. We will not have projectors or computers for the outdoor breakout sessions.  If you are interested in presenting outdoors, please email jmoneill@viterbo.edu.
