Key Professional Dispositions

Students will demonstrate effective professional attitudes and conduct, collectively known as professional dispositions, that show one’s openness to instructor and supervisor feedback, the ability to navigate collegial relationships with peers and others, and demonstration of cultural competence during interpersonal interactions. Completion of 60 credit hours of coursework maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Graduation Requirements

Developed with the working professional in mind, the Ed.D. is a 60-credit hour, evening and weekend, year-round program that can be completed in four years, taking as little as six credits per semester. An accelerated track is also available, completing nine credits per semester over a three-year period.

  • 12 credits advanced clinical practice
  • 6 credits counseling supervision
  • 6 credits counselor education and instruction
  • 15 credits research
  • 6 credits leadership and advocacy
  • 6 credits integrative behavioral health
  • 9 credits field work

Successful completion of the program includes a written and oral examination and the dissertation sequence.

Practicum
Students will complete three credits of practicum in a placement designed to develop the knowledge and skills for counselor education, supervision, or advanced counseling practice. 

Internship
Students complete approximately 20 hours a week in a clinical setting designed to move the student toward independent work with students, clients, or supervisees under the full supervision of a site supervisor. Internship typically consists of two courses spanning two semesters.

Dissertation
Students will conduct a scholarly project. This project is an opportunity for students to engage in independent scholarly work in a defined area of significance to the counselor education and supervision field. Students will work with faculty advisors for assistance, critique, and expertise. The student will receive a grade at the end of the semester of the dissertation project, a B or better indicates satisfactory progress. Students are required to disseminate their work in a prescribed way. Students will use a research model that includes the rigor of quantitative and qualitative methodologies consistent with doctoral level inquiry and program evaluation procedures using outcome driven decision-making processes related to best practices.
