I am planning to major in Computer Science at Viterbo. What type of laptop should I have?

In general, here are computer specs recommended by Viterbo. The most computationally demanding courses in the computer science major are CSCI 210 Networking and Cloud Interfaces and MATH 335 Data Analysis. The minimum requirements listed on the general computer spec page will be sufficient, particularly at least 256 GB hard drive and at least 4 GB RAM. Lack of a sufficient laptop should not be the limiting factor for majoring in computer science at Viterbo. If you have any concerns about obtaining a laptop, please reach out to a computer science faculty member.

What is the computer science capstone like?

Senior-level computer science students will work in interdisciplinary teams, e.g. with engineering or math majors, on year-long projects with external stakeholders. The capstone experience will provide computer science students to gain broader and/or deeper experience with computer science topics through the context of a real world problem.

What's the difference between an internship and a co-op?

Computer Science majors at Viterbo must take either CSCI 487 Computer Science Internship (minimum of 3 credits) or CSCI 490/491. An internship spans a single semester. A co-op (CSCI 490/491) spans a semester plus a summer.

Computer Science is a relatively new major at Viterbo. What other programs has Viterbo launched recently?

Viterbo's engineering major launched in Fall 2018. Viterbo's engineering program was awarded ABET accrediation in August 2023 with retroactive accreditation starting in October 2021.
