Thea Bowman, FSPA '65, and actor, singer, and activist Harry Belafonte (who died April 25 at age 96) were all smiles in 1988 during a celebration in their honor at Xavier University of Louisiana. He was visiting as part of his research for a planned film on her life in which he planned to cast Whoopi Goldberg to play Sr. Thea.

Assisi pilgrimage

Sister Thea Bowman documentary
This is an official promotional poster for the documentary "Going Home Like a Shooting Star: Thea Bowman's Journey to Sainthood." The documentary, which contains scenes filmed on the Viterbo University campus, will be screened at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in the Fine Arts Center's Nola Starling Recital Hall. It will air on ABC stations nationwide beginning Oct. 2, with WXOW airing it at noon on Oct. 2..

Luke Bussiere, an assistant professor in the biology department at Viterbo University, is serving as a mentor to senior biology major Kaitlin Schiferl for her summer research project on use of viruses to treat cancer.

Zach Schmit
Zach Schmit, who graduated in May 2022 with a biology degree, had planned to be a physician when he came to Viterbo. He has decided to go to Mayo's Doctor of Physical Therapy program, however, so he will get the chance to better connect with the people who come to him for healing.

Nursing on the Green 2022
The 2022 Nursing Research on the Green program, “Nursing in a Pandemic: Purpose, Passion and Promoting Self-Care,” was held April 28, centering on recognizing exhaustion, with a focus on nurses, and helping them develop effective interventions for improving resilience and hardiness. Madysen Ryan and Joe Brenner were announced Wednesday as the 2022 recipients of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse Pathway Scholarships, which offers four years of free tuition at Viterbo.

The NSAA conference champion Viterbo University men's basketball team
The Viterbo University men's basketball team beat Waldorf 74-72 Wednesday to advance to the NSAA Final Four. The V-Hawks play Dakota State University starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, in Watertown, S.D.

An exhibit of works by more than 50 Viterbo alumni artists and designers opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, in the Viterbo University Gallery on the third floor of the Fine Arts Center.

Viterbo men's soccer team
Viterbo's men's soccer team remained undefeated after a 2-0 victory over Morningside and an 11-0 victory of Maranatha Baptist University. The 15-0-1 V-Hawks close the season Oct. 31 at Iowa Wesleyan.
