Within her student engagement coordinator role, Amann supervises the Weekends at VU team; coordinates large events such as Family Day, Welcome Weeks, and the Welcome Back Bash; oversees clubs and organizations approval and training; and more. She manages many of the large events happening for students and works to publicize them well to get the word out to campus. Amann has brought a range of experience coming to Viterbo University as it is the sixth campus community she has been a part of.

Amann received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville. She then served as an area coordinator at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Once deciding she wanted to go to grad school, Amann went on to earn a Master of Arts in Postsecondary Education: Student Affairs degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Upon graduation, she worked as a residence hall director at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and served the La Crosse County Health Department as the coordinator of the Vaccine Hotline before beginning her role at Viterbo University.

How many years have you worked at Viterbo?

I have been working at Viterbo University since July 2021. While I have only been in my position for about three months, they have been very fulfilling as the student engagement coordinator role is a great fit that allows my strengths to benefit students and colleagues on Viterbo’s campus.

Areas of expertise?

One of my areas that I am passionate about is team building. I’ve worked with both small teams and large teams and love helping bring a group together around a common cause or interest. As an extrovert and Enneagram 7, I am enthusiastic about assisting individuals in learning about themselves while also seeing how they fit into a larger group. Recognition is key in this puzzle, and I love to give pep talks and cheer on those I work with. Whether that is helping a student leader group bond as they work to create a new organization or working with staff teams going through difficult times, I have a lot of tools in my toolbox for when it comes to putting together the team puzzle.

Event planning and design are two of my other passion areas. With strategic as my number one Clifton Strength, I pride myself in helping processes and procedures run smoothly. From the dry erase calendar of the entire year on the wall of my office, you’ll know that I’m able to see both the big picture along with the details to make things happen. I have a creative mind that loves to try new ways of advertising to catch the eyes of both staff and students. Need some creative support? Stop by my office in Hawk’s Nest 103!

What do you love most about working at Viterbo?

While I have not been on campus for very long, I love the close-knit feel of the Viterbo community. From colleagues to students, everyone has given me a warm welcome and are excited to see what I am going to bring to campus. I enjoy being able to stroll through campus and see friendly faces each day and finding time to connect throughout my days in the office.

I also enjoy being able to make an impact in many ways, not just by my role as a student engagement coordinator. I have been able to join the Identities Project Committee, join our working group for the Viterbo app, and assist on our Sophomore Year Experience Committee, and that is just in the first three months! I appreciate that Viterbo’s campus community is flexible and allows me to lend a helping hand with the skills and gifts that I have. It also helps me grow and develop to find ways to best train others.

What inspires you?

The students here at Viterbo are what inspires me. From their passion to make change in the world to their enthusiasm for service, they constantly amaze me at how they strive to make a difference. I love being able to celebrate big wins or work through lows together by being a source of support. My favorite part of working with students is watching them grow from their first time on campus to their last and by getting the opportunity to be a small part of their journey is always a great feeling.
