VITERBO UNIVERSITY MUSIC DEPARTMENT TO PRESENT CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD DEC. 5–6

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Celebrate the Christmas season with the Viterbo University Concert Choir, 9th Street Singers, Platinum Edition, area high school students, and an orchestra of excellent musicians as they present Christmas Around the World at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.

Christmas Around the World will feature carols, lullabies, and folk songs of the Christmas season from many traditions and cultures. Conrad Susa’s Carols and Lullabies from the Southwest accompanied by marimba, guitar and harp, creates the feeling of a beautiful and tender piñata party for the Baby Jesus. Karolju by Christopher Rouse celebrates Christmas from Czechoslovakia, Russia, Scandinavia, Italy and Germany. This colorful, dramatic work will take the audience on a journey around the world at Christmas time. Carols from the English tradition will be heard in Rejoice! by Gwyneth Walker.

“The audience will even have an opportunity to join in the singing with the choirs when we conclude the concert with the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah,” said Jean Saladino, director for the Viterbo Concert Choir and 9th Street Singers.

This performance is part of Viterbo’s Bright Star Season and is sponsored by Gundersen Health System and Intech Integrated Marketing Services. Fox 25/48 is the media sponsor.

Tickets are $18 for main floor, $15 for lower balcony, and $12 for upper balcony seating. For more information or to order tickets, contact the Viterbo box office at 608-796-3100 or visit www.viterbo.edu/tickets.
