VITERBO D.B. REINHART INSTITUTE FOR ETHICS IN LEADERSHIP PARTNERS WITH IM EDUCATION TO OFFER VIRTUAL CLASS SERIES REBUILDING AMERICAN CIVICS WITH SAM SCINTA FEB. 3

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University’s D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership is partnering with IM Education to offer Rebuilding American Civics, a virtual series of four classes led by Sam Scinta on Wednesday evenings via Zoom from 6:30–8 p.m. beginning Feb. 3.

Classes are free and open to the public. These sessions will cover topics including the Declaration of Independence (Feb. 3), the First amendment (Feb. 17), federalism (March 3), and voting and elections (March 17). Email jmmiller@viterbo.edu to register.

“While many Americans know a bit about our government foundations, processes, and institutions, it is important that we have a shared and deeper understanding of these topics, so that we can have better and more constructive political conversations,” said Sam Scinta. “These classes will emphasize critical thinking and dialogue, learning along the way that it is okay to ‘agree to disagree,’ so long as we do it with mutual respect and empathy.”

Sam Scinta is the founder and president of IM Education, a non-profit organization in Onalaska, associate lecturer in political science at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and adjunct instructor in servant leadership at Viterbo University.

In addition to Rebuilding American Civics, Scinta and Rick Kyte, director of D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership, have collaborated to create The Inspired Minds Podcast. This podcast features conversations with a variety of guests throughout the U.S. that aim to restore American civic virtue. It is available on Apple Podcasts as well as IM Education’s website, www.inspiredmindsedu.org.

These programs were created to address the need for more civics education and a greater focus on civic virtue in America.
