Subject: Important update about classes from Viterbo University

 Dear students,

While the situation in the nation is developing quickly, we want to share our latest news and decisions.

The first case of Coronavirus in La Crosse County was confirmed this morning.  Check media outlets for the latest news.

Viterbo will extend online instruction through the end of the spring term. Students will be contacted by faculty, if they haven’t already about how courses will proceed.  Please check your Viterbo email regularly as that will be how the University communicates with you.

  • Tutoring remains available virtually. Contact the ARC with questions.
  • Library services are available on the web site.  Librarians are available to assist you remotely.
  • All support offices will be set up to continue to assist you remotely.

Commencement and nursing pinning will be postponed until a later time so that we can celebrate our graduates in the manner they deserve.  We will communicate about this topic when there is more information to share.

All major events for the remainder of the semester will be cancelled, including Fine Arts performances. Capstone experiences are still being discussed to determine the best solution for completing the requirements.  Faculty will be in touch with affected students.

Resident students will receive separate communications from Student Life about scheduling time to remove remaining items from residence halls. We will ask students to schedule a time so that we can maintain social distancing and no gatherings of large groups as mandated by the governor. Please wait for further communication from Student Life.  Removing items from campus residences does not need to happen in the next few days. Residential students received an earlier email about partial room and board refunds – more information will follow.  Our residence halls remain open for a limited number of students who need to remain on campus for a number of reasons and were approved previously by Student Life.

During this time of uncertainty, Counseling Services wants to make sure that you know that they are available to support you in any way that they can.  Even though classes have moved to online, there will be at least on counselor on campus Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m.  You can reach out via email or utilize the following link to schedule an in person or phone appointment.   Visit the Counseling site for further information or to schedule an appointment due to licensure and state law, these “check in’s” are available for students in Minnesota and Wisconsin with Alicia Hengel and in Wisconsin with LeeAnn Van Vreede.  If it is not feasible for you to come in to meet with a counselor and/or live in a state where they are unable to provide “check in” calls and you need resources in your community, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of them and they will be happy to assist you.

Later today, Viterbo will set up a student and parent response hotline for questions or concerns open from 8AM-8PM Monday through Friday.  Please know, our student support offices remain staffed and ready to help you and please call them directly in addition to this number.  Look for more details on the contact information tomorrow (it will be on the website, in future communications and social media).  We want to provide multiple ways for you to reach us when you need support.

We know that the information is changing regularly.  The faculty and administration are working through this together so that we can finish our semester. Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.

I know not being able to finish the semester in person on campus will be sad news for many students and employees.  My heart particularly goes out to the seniors and graduate students who will be finishing programs this semester.  We will do our best to provide ways to celebrate your outstanding accomplishments as a community when it is safe to do so.
