GALAN TRIO’S KINESIS TO CONTINUE VITERBO OUT OF OUR MINDS CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES NOV. 5

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Out of Our Minds Chamber Music Series will continue with Galan Trio’s Kinesis at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Fine Arts Center Nola Starling Recital Hall.

Presented by GREECE IN USA, Galan Trio’s Kinesis, is a survey on the music of contemporary American composers in an original, multifaceted concert program. The project is a collaboration between Galan Trio and professors of composition from seven selected U.S. universities, including Viterbo’s Mary Ellen Haupert.

Haupert wrote Variant for violin, cello, and piano for the concert, named after the omicron variant of COVID-19 that was prominent in the Midwest at the time of her composing the piece.

“I am honored to be one of the featured composers in Galan Trio's Kinesis project, and to have the opportunity to learn about their unique programming as Greek cultural ambassadors,” Haupert said. “Variant is a passacaglia (continuous variations) on an original theme in F Minor,” she said. “The inspiration for the form was the COVID-Omicron variant, which I contracted within days after composing the piece.”

In addition to Haupert, this concert tour also features composers from Macalester College (Randy Bauer), the University of Minnesota (Alex Lubet), Luther College (Brooke Joyce), Valparaiso University (Navid Bargrizan), Indiana State University in Terre Haute (Daniel Powers), Northeastern Illinois University (Jeffrey Kowalkowski/Pantelis Bolarakis), and a work by composer Dylan Findley.

Known for the passionate and energetic way they perform classical compositions, the Athens-based Galan Trio is active both in Greece and internationally. The ensemble consists of Charalampos Karasavvidis on violin, Marina Kolovou on cello, and Petro Bouras on piano.

GREECE IN USA is a non-profit organization with a global reach that promotes knowledge of contemporary and ancient Greek Culture while fostering international cultural cooperation, experimentation, and social engagement. It is under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports.

This concert at Viterbo is free and open to the public. There will be a free will offering to cover artist fees and marketing expenses.
