"COME HERE, BROTHER WOLF DOCUMENTARY ON VETERAN PILGRIMAGE TO PREMIERE NOV. 11 AT THE RIVOLI THEATRE IN LA CROSSE
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Experience a journey of healing and hope with a group of U.S. military veterans and civilians in the premiere of the documentary Come Here, Brother Wolf: A Veterans Pilgrimage at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the Rivoli Theatre in downtown La Crosse.
Come Here, Brother Wolf was produced by two-time Emmy®–winning journalist Dustin Luecke and former award-winning journalist and current author and educator Martha Boehm in association with ProAmo Creative. They filmed the documentary in Italy in May 2025, joining a multi-generational group of about 30 individuals with experience in various military branches and civilians who took a physical, emotional, and spiritual journey through Rome, Poggio Bustone, Assisi, La Verna, and Gubbio.
“There’s something about spirituality of place–a battlefield, a cemetery, a shrine; poppies, sunflowers, and all of nature–which reenergizes, recreates, and recaptures one’s soul,” said Fr. Conrad Targonski, chaplain at Viterbo University and a pilgrimage leader who is featured in the film. “Francis and Clare of Assisi provide the background for this pilgrimage, and veterans are amazed of its wonder.”
Through conversations with spiritual guides and mental health experts, the film’s creators explore how Francis of Assisi coped with what was likely post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and how veterans are connecting that with their own experience. The documentary features several local veterans, including Viterbo University alumni and students.
The runtime of the film is about 60 minutes. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the film will start at 5:30 p.m. A discussion with the filmmakers will follow the screening.
This documentary premiere is part of Civics and Cinema, an ongoing series dedicated to sharing movies, bringing the community together, and fostering civic conversations. The program is sponsored by the Rivoli Theatre, Rebuilding American Civics, and the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership at Viterbo University. The documentary is also supported by Franciscan Pilgrimage Programs.
The cost of the film premiere is $5, plus taxes. Proceeds from this showing will be donated to support local veterans programs. For more information or to order tickets, contact the Rivoli Theatre at rivoli.net or 608-860-0983.
