Inclement Weather Plan

Viterbo University implements its Inclement Weather Plan when conditions create significant travel or safety risks for students, employees, and visitors. During periods of deteriorating weather, in-person classes and other campus activities will continue as scheduled unless the University issues an official notice of either Remote Learning or Campus Closure for the main campus in La Crosse.

Official Notice

Any official change to University classes, activities, events, or operations will be communicated through one or more of the following channels.

  • University home pageFacebook, and Instagram
  • University email to all employees, faculty, and students
  • Local news, radio, and television outlets

Remote Learning

When Remote Learning is announced:

Students

No in-person classes will be held. Faculty will notify students of remote learning activities or assignments to be completed for the day.

Student Teaching

Follow the schedule of the cooperating school.

Student Internships

Use judgment when deciding whether to report to the internship site. Interns are responsible for communicating directly with their site supervisor.

Clinical Experiences 

Because clinicals and travel to sites may begin prior to other University functions, the relevant College Dean will make a cancellation decision by 10:00 p.m. the evening prior. Clinical experiences may be cancelled even if in‑person classes and other campus activities still occur. 

University Events & Activities

Cancelled. This includes (but is not limited to) fine arts rehearsals and performances, athletic practices and competitions, student organizations and activities, public lectures and events, and San Damiano services.

Student Facilities

Residence halls, dining hall, and Mathy Center will be open.
Campus Buildings, Support Services & Offices Open and operating as normal.
Employees Faculty may work remotely. Staff and administrators will report to campus as scheduled unless remote work, adjusted hours, or use of vacation time is approved by the supervisor. 

 

Campus Closure

In rare circumstances, the University may close campus due to extreme or unsafe weather conditions. When Campus Closure is announced:

Campus Buildings, Support Services & Offices

Campus buildings , support services, and offices (except for Student Facilities listed above) will be closed.

Employees Essential Support Service Personnel (as designated by Cabinet and relevant supervisors) will report to work. All other employees will not report to campus but will be paid for their scheduled hours. Remote work is encouraged, where possible.
