Why is the Alumni Plaza project being launched now?
This is the 80th anniversary of the 1941 opening of Murphy Center, cornerstone of the Viterbo campus. In addition, we celebrate the golden anniversary of the Fine Arts Center, which opened 50 years ago. Since 1971, the Fine Arts Center has offered countless enriching and entertaining cultural experiences to the campus and the La Crosse community.
How will my contribution be used?
Money raised for the project will pay for creating a Viterbo History Walk under the Murphy Center portico, mounting images from 50 years of performances at the Fine Arts Center entrance, and installing name plaques and lighting at Murphy Center and the Fine Arts Center.
Funds also will pay for enhancements to the east side of Murphy to make the Alumni Plaza a distinctive gathering place, including landscaping to enhance the entrance, tables with umbrellas on the plaza, and seating and other improvements on the Murphy balcony overlooking Assisi Courtyard. Additional funds will be used to make improvements to both buildings.
How much is the donation required to be on a name plaque?
We are asking for a $300 gift, which can be paid over three years. Supporters may choose to have their name on the plaques at Murphy Center or the Fine Arts Center. Names will be posted at both locations with a gift of $500, which also can be spread over three years.
For members of the Viterbo classes through the 2020 decade, the qualifying donation is reduced to $180, also spread over three years.
How much is tax deductible?
Donations are fully tax deductible, to the extent allowed by law, and will be acknowledged with a gift receipt.
What is the deadline?
Donations will be accepted through the end of February 2022. The creation of the plaques and installation of the Viterbo Alumni Plaza and History Walk will occur in spring 2022. This will be the only opportunity to include alumni names from past decades on the plaques.
