LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University will present Hot Fun in the Summertime: The Music of 1969 Thursday, June 27 – Saturday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Piggy’s Restaurant Ballroom.

1969 is often referred to as the year that changed the world forever. The varied and diverse music of 1969 reflected the political, social, and cultural events that shaped the decades to come. This performance features many of the hit songs from that year, including Build Me Up ButtercupAquarius/Let the Sunshine InCrimson and Clover, and Hot Fun in the Summertime, among many others.

“The first thing that grabbed my attention about the music of 1969 is the 50thanniversary of Woodstock this summer,” said Nancy Allen, who is directing the production and will be accompanying the cast on piano. “I was 11 years old at the time and remember playing my Woodstock album over and over again. I loved the music. Our show will feature sets of music from Woodstock and Hairwith more songs from the pop, rock, and folk genres. I think people will be surprised how many great and enduring songs came from 1969.”

This summertime cabaret-style performance was developed by Allen, professor of music at Viterbo University, and will feature a cast of six men and six women who are all local performers. The show features several large group numbers as well as opportunities for the audience to sing along. The cast will cover over 60 hits from 1969 by performing medleys that feature solos, duets, trios, quartets, and other small ensemble groupings.

Cast members include Maureen Breuer, Arianna Day, Skyler Erickson, Katie Fries, Camryn Larson, Doug Mahlum, Brad Seebach, Carter Semb, Vernon Shaw, Kayla Shue, Joan Waniger, and Rick Waniger. “They are all volunteers, and I am blessed to work with such talented people,” said Allen.

The performances will take place in the ballroom at Piggy’s Restaurant in downtown La Crosse. Piggy’s will offer a pre-performance fixed-price dinner in the restaurant for those interested in dining before the performance.
