Theory and practice in socially responsible new journalism feature writing. Students explore theories of journalism and social activism and produce newspaper feature articles that address the concerns of local communities. Specifically, students engage theories of rhetoric and social justice to explore what it means to do socially responsible journalism in the digital age. Building on their engagement with these theories, and their understanding of journalistic practices, students work with community organizations to produce a variety of articles that address issues of social justice and the common good.
