Catholic Faith and LGBTQ+
Place of Mercy Quote

Viterbo University stands with the Catholic Church in affirming that all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God. We actively work to create a community where all may flourish and feel welcome while also striving for faithful adherence to Catholic teaching.

Viterbo University endorses the Church’s position that persons who identify as LGBTQ+ “must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity” (CCC 2358–2359) and we seek to provide “aid and encouragement” as our campus community lives out a universal call to holiness.

We are proud to offer various programs for members of our university community to reflect theologically on the Catholic understanding of sexual intimacy and the call to chastity and holiness of life. Through ongoing meaningful dialogue, we both listen to the experience of each person and share the wisdom and insights of our Catholic faith.

Viterbo University stands in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ community in rejecting all forms of hatred, prejudice, bias, or unjust discrimination. We will further commit ourselves to tearing down walls that divide us, cross the contrived boundaries we have established, and recognize that we are all God’s creation.
