Interprofessional Communication, Health Care Partnerships, and Professional Issues

This course focuses on developing holistic, therapeutic, person-centered communication skills that are effective in promoting: inclusivity, equity, diversity; relationship-building with patients/clients/students, families, and other disciplines; advocacy for patient/client/student access to care; advocacy for the profession of speech-language pathology. Emphasis will be placed on active listening skills and the science behind high-functioning teams. Students will apply relationship-based care principles to interpersonal and interprofessional interactions and begin to identify strategies that promote healthy communication between patients/clients/students, families, and colleagues. Prerequisite: 648.
