Quantitative Literacy Definition
Quantitative Literacy is an aggregate of knowledge, dispositions, learned practices of informed skepticism, effective communication, and problem-solving skills that people need in order to confidently and competently engage in quantitative situations arising in everyday life and work.
- Recognize patterns in data.
- Perform informed analyses.
- Explain information that has been received in mathematical form.
- Convert information into mathematical form.
- Solve quantitative problems by analyzing data mathematically.
- Approximate and simplify data appropriately.
Ways to Fulfill Competencies
- Any 100-level or higher MATH course will show that students have met this competency.
- Any course that has been approved as a Quantitative Literacy course by the Core Curriculum Committee.
- These courses have been granted provisional status as Quantitative Literacy courses: MGMT-230, OMGT-305, PSYC-223, SOCL-223
- An ACT score of 27 or higher within the last 5 years.
- Students within the ACT range of 21 to 26 may take a Quantitative Literacy exam to demonstrate satisfying the foundation requirement.
- Students with an ACT of 20 or lower must take a course to satisfy the foundation requirement.
