STEELY DANE: THE ULTIMATE STEELY DAN TRIBUTE AT THE WEBER CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS FEB. 24

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Madison-based Steely Dane: the Ultimate Steely Dan Tribute, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 in the Weber Center for the Performing Arts Lyche Theatre.

Multiple-time winner of the MAMA award for Best Tribute Band and Madison Magazine’s Best Cover Band, Steely Dane is dedicated to not only faithfully reproducing the Steely Dan and Donald Fagen songbook, but to bringing an energetic live-show experience to the crowd.

Steely Dane consists of 14 of Dane County’s best jazz and rock musicians who have banded together around their passion for Steely Dan music. They play in the same configuration as the Steely Dan touring band, including a four-piece horn section and three background singers. Shows consist of hits and deep cuts and sometimes even complete albums and are sure to have audience members out of their seats singing along.

“The large ensemble fills the hall with soul and smarts. It’s a big band with big sound, and it’s damn near perfect,” wrote John Roach of Madison Magazine. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “with enthusiasm and expert musicianship, Steely Dane is a joy to watch.”

With classic hit songs such as Reelin’ in the Years, Rikki Don’t Lose that Number, Aja, Peg, and many more, Steely Dan brought together jazz, rock, and R&B sensibilities to form a whole new kind of pop music in the 1970s.

Steely Dane is co-led by musical directors David Adler and David Stoler, musicians with deep experience in rock and jazz music.

“Steely Dan is this great band where jazz and rock come together with the best of both of those worlds, and we felt like it’d be a great opportunity to bring together my rocker friends and Dave’s jazzer friends to play some music that both rockers and jazzers love,” Adler said. “That was eight years ago, and we’ve been running with it ever since.”
