Bill Medland Appreciation Day

medlandappreciationFormer president Bill Medland was honored with a baseball game appreciation day by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in April.

In his 15 years as president, the V-Hawk athletics department has seen a great deal of improvement and expansion. In 1995, Medland was instrumental in starting a varsity women’s soccer program. Then in 1997, Viterbo built a $1 million outdoor athletics complex, which is home to men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, and softball. Finally, in 2005 Viterbo built a $7.5 million recreation, education, and wellness complex called the Amie L. Mathy Center.

The appreciation day featured free hot dogs and pop, with Medland throwing out the first pitch.

“I was so pumped to see all of the athletes that came out for the event,” said senior Alyssa Kammel, president of the SAAC. “We had a lot of fun putting it together, and we hope that Dr. Medland understands how much we appreciate all that he has done for us and Viterbo.”
