VITERBO UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT HOT STUFF: NUMBER ONE HITS FROM THE 1970S JUNE 28-30
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Fine Arts Center will present Hot Stuff: Number One Hits from the 1970s Thursday, June 28–Saturday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre Lobby.
This summertime cabaret-style performance was the brainchild of Nancy Allen, professor of music at Viterbo University, and will feature an all-female cast of local performers, including Maureen Breuer, Arianna Day, Katie Fries, Beth Lakmann, Bridget Misch, Sarah Seegert, and Joan Waniger.
The 1970s is best remembered as the decade that gave birth to disco, and this performance will feature songs by the Bee Gees as well as other disco favorites from Donna Summer, KC and the Sunshine Band, Wild Cherry, and more. Motown will also feature prominently, with songs from chart-topping bands and artists including Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, and Diana Ross.
Throughout the 1970s, classic rock flourished, and the cast will perform hits by The Eagles, Three Dog Night, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, Paul McCartney/Wings, and The Guess Who. The 1970s is also remembered as a time when pop music became mellower and more laid back. Top soft rock groups and singer-songwriters that will feature in this performance include Elton John, John Denver, the Carpenters, Chicago, Roberta Flack, Jim Croce, Neil Diamond, Carly Simon, Carole King, Don McLean, Linda Ronstadt, and Peaches And Herb.
The performance will also feature hit movie songs including Barbra Streisand’s The Way We Were and Evergreen, as well as other iconic hits such as Labelle’s Lady Marmalade, Minnie Riperton’s Lovin' You, and The Knack's energetic power pop ballad, My Sharona.
“This show has something for everyone,” said Allen, who is directing the production and compiled the songs which will be performed. “There was so much popular music from the 1970s that we thought this would appeal to a lot of people. Performing in a cabaret-style setting like this allows us to create a really fun and relaxed atmosphere where people can come with their friends and enjoy a night of great music.”
The performances will take place in the lobby of the Fine Arts Center’s Main Theatre and will include a cash bar, providing a more casual atmosphere.
Tickets are $20 for general admission seating and can be purchased by contacting the Viterbo Box Office at 608-796-3100 or visiting www.viterbo.edu/tickets.
