“CHANGEMENT” PAINTED SCULPTURE EXHIBIT TO OPEN IN VITERBO UNIVERSITY GALLERY JAN. 26
LA CROSSE, Wis. – An exhibit entitled “Changement” featuring the painted sculpture of artist Anita Powell will open in the Viterbo University Gallery with a reception at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26.
Powell’s sculpture takes the form of a dress, which she uses as a symbol for her gender. She then paints the dress with imagery that reflect her intellectual, emotional, spiritual, or aesthetic perceptions.
“My work is the visual manifestation of my life experiences,” wrote Powell in an artist statement. “It expresses my own uniquely individual perceptions concerning many aspects of those experiences.”
Powell is an assistant professor of art education at Ball State University. While on the Viterbo campus Jan. 26, she will be hold a workshop from 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. in Fine Arts Center Room 301 and an artist talk from 7–7:30 p.m. in Fine Arts Center Room 219.
“Changement” will run until Wednesday, Feb. 23. There is no admission fee to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Fine Arts Center on campus. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. when school is in session.
