Alcohol/Drug Prevention

(Reviewed February 2009)

Campus alcohol and drug prevention services work to create an environment that fosters optimal student health, academic performance, safety, and well being by reducing the likelihood that these areas will be compromised by high-risk alcohol and drug use.

  • Create an environment where abstinence is recognized as a good choice and accepted without explanation,
  • Create an environment where low-risk choices are perceived and practiced as norms among those who choose to drink,
  • Insure that the majority of students recognize a high-risk choice and have the information and skills to effectively help a peer making a high-risk choice related to alcohol or other drugs.
