Sacramental Programs:

Even though San Damiano is not a parish,  with Diocesan guidance, the sacraments of Baptism and Matrimony are allowed in certain circumstances for those in affiliation with Viterbo University.  Other sacramental preparation and religious education opportunities for children must be pursued at your local parish.  For more information, contact the University Chaplain or Campus Ministry.

Confirmation:

For Catholic college students who have celebrated the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and First Reconciliation, we offer the opportunity to prepare for and celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation by participating in Campus Ministry's Confirmation process.

Weekly meetings will provide a review of important elements of our Catholic faith rooted in our baptism, informed by our Franciscan mission and identity. These sessions guide students wishing to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in appropriate adult catechesis while encouraging personal spiritual growth and discernment by fostering an environment of community, discussion, reflection, prayer, and service.  For more information, please contact Emilio Alvarez, Director of Campus Ministry at ebalvarez@viterbo.edu.

Reconciliation (Confession):

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the healing sacraments and celebrates the loving embrace of God when we turn toward him and away from our sins.  Reconciliation takes place in the  Divine Mercy confessional in San Damiano Chapel:  30 minutes prior to Mass,  Wednesdays from 5-6 pm and by appointment Fr. Conrad – catargonski@viterbo.edu)

Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA):

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA, is an opportunity for individuals to learn more about the faith of the Catholic Church that is offered by Viterbo University's Campus Ministry. The program is available as a place to inquire and learn whether one is simply curious about what Catholics believe or is considering joining the Catholic Church. Typically, our group consists of Viterbo students, employees, or community members who attend San Damiano Chapel. Participants have included those who may have been baptized or received First Communion in the Catholic Church but were never confirmed as well as those who may have been baptized in another tradition. We have also had participants who were already confirmed but wanted to continue to learn and deepen their understanding of Catholicism. Participation in RCIA does not require one to receive the sacraments of initiation but offers a space to discern if that might be the next step in one’s faith journey. Classes take place weekly for about an hour and are scheduled based on the availability of the participants. The classes follow a curriculum that breaks open various components of the Catholic Catechism and leaves space for participants to bring their own questions and pondering.

Opportunities Available:

• Chapel Hospitality Team: Individuals are trained to welcome the community to our Sunday Liturgies. They greet individuals at the door and provide assistance in away way.
•  Lectoring:  Individuals willing to be trained to read the 1st & 2nd readings and the intercessions during the Weekend Liturgies.
•  Cantoring: Individuals interested in assisting with singing as a Cantor or playing an instrument during Chapel liturgies. (While the full St. Francis Choir cannot meet in person, opportunities continue to exist.)
• St. Francis Choir: Individuals who are interested in singing in the St. Francis Choir at San Damiano Chapel. If you are interested in joining the choir and/or being a cantor, you can also contact Polly Pappadopoulos (polly1@aol.com) or fill out the survey link below.
• Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion: Individuals will be trained to distribute the Body of Christ to the community.
• Sacristan: Individuals will be trained to assist in the preparation of the sacred vessels and environment for the celebration of the Holy Mass.
• Bible study/group leader: Individuals that are interested in being trained in creating a small group community that will help facilitate a group discussion on specified materials such as book studies, bible studies, reflective activities.
