This session will deliver an overview of dementia and the realities of providing care in an inpatient setting for individuals with this diagnosis. It will provide an evidence-based, pragmatic approach to managing the symptoms of dementia, especially those that occur in later stages of the disorder, including behavioral changes and psychological manifestations. Additionally, various tips and tricks informed by personal and professional experiences will be shared to highlight the ease by which complex interventions can be implemented.

It's Time to Talk:  Stigma in Dementia

This session will provide an overview of stigma, types of stigma, dementia and stigma, coping styles and stigma and measures used to assess dementia-related stigma. The experiences and perspectives of persons with dementia and their caregivers will be reviewed and communication approaches to address dementia-related stigma set forth.
