Accounting is often called the language of business. Accountants generate information about an organization's resources, the sources of those resources, and how effectively the resources have been used. The accountant prepares and interprets this information and, thus, is an important member of the leadership team of any organization. Accounting majors receive strong preparation for careers in private businesses, government organizations, and public accounting firms.

The mission of the accounting major is to enable learners to achieve career success through superior, professional education that emphasizes ethical accounting practices and which prepares learners for accounting careers in private business, government organizations, and public accounting.

Program Goals

The goals of the accounting program include equipping learners with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be effective in the accounting field. The accounting program provides experiences necessary to develop strong critical thinking skills, and it enables students to identify, analyze, and resolve ethical dilemmas.
